Getting Started

How long is a private lesson?

Our private lessons are 30 minutes long. Studies show that 25 minutes is the optimal learning time after which your ability to retain information diminishes. You will see better results from a daily lesson of 25 minutes than a long 4-hour study session once a week. To accommodate all schedules, it is possible to reserve lessons of 60 minutes and 90 minutes.

How often should I study?

Short sessions of consistent learning will enable you to achieve fluency faster than irregular study, therefore, you should ideally practice English for a short period every day. A private lesson of 25 – 30 minutes three or four times a week will give you better results than a long study session once a week. Additionally, you can enjoy short listening and reading activities on your way to work or in your home.

How do I sign up to Speakily?

This will help us to identify your current level and which coursework is best suited to you. Once your payment has been verified you will be able to reserve your first private class. Your success coordinator will contact you to confirm your reservation within 24 hours of receipt of your request.

Do I need to buy or download special software?

No. Speakily online classrooms run on a proprietary learning platform. All you need to enjoy our lessons is an Internet connection, plus a headset, microphone and webcam if your computer or device does not already have one installed.

Will I receive a certificate for new level score achievements?

Yes, our tests and results align with CEFR, the internationally recognised Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. If you are more familiar with TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) level scores please click on the Comparison Chart to see how they compare with CEFR.

I have a very basic level. How will I understand my teacher?

Do not worry. 98% of our teachers and staff speak at least two languages. As a rule the English lessons are conducted in English. However, in case of difficulty, your assigned teacher is able to communicate in your native language.

The Classes

I want to prepare for an upcoming presentation or meeting, is this possible?

Yes. All coursework is tailormade to suit your learning goals. Our teachers will adapt each lesson according to your situation and deadlines.

What if I need to cancel a reserved class?

Notification to reschedule or cancel a class must be submitted 24 hours prior to the class starting time. Failure to send a cancellation or reschedule notification within this time frame, will result in the class being counted as a paid class. The full class credit is payable and will not be re-credited.

How can I reserve a class?

Classes are reserved by connecting to your Account. All classes must be reserved at least 24 hours in advance.

What happens if I am late for a class?

Your tutor will be available online at the scheduled start time of the lesson. Your tutor will wait for 15 minutes from the start time of the class and if after 15 minutes you do not connect to the online classroom then the tutor will treat that class as having been taken. You will be charged a credit for the class and no refund will be given for non-attendance.

When are your teachers available?

For your convenience, a teacher is available 24 hours a day / 7 days a week with the exception of the 4 days per year which is considered a holiday period.
Private online lessons are not available on the 24th, 25th, 31st December and the 1st of January. Private lessons are available for all of the remaining days of the year.

What happens if the teacher cancels a class?

Occasionally the tutor may have an unavoidable emergency that could result in them having no other option than to cancel your class for that day. If the tutor provides more than 24 hours cancellation notice, you will be given the option to reschedule the class. If the tutor cancels the class with less than 24 hours notice of the scheduled class start time, a substitute tutor will be provided and you will be notified by Email and/or phone. You have the right to accept or refuse the substitute tutor. Refusal of the substitute tutor will not result in the loss of the class credit.
